Putting Tip - Adjusting For Putting Surfaces

Most of us practice our putting in the comfort of our own home and usually on carpet. However, you will find that your benchmark putting distances that you practice will be different when you putt on a real course green. Therefore it is important to use the practice putting greens before you start a round of golf.

On the practice putting green use about three balls and step off your benchmark distance, start with your five-foot distance, and putt the three balls with your benchmark putt. The difference from where your balls end up compared to the distance you stepped off is the amount you will need to adjust to these particular greens. Make the required adjustment with your putting swing to consistently hit your bench mark distance and remember the amount of adjustment required to do so. Then when you play your round of golf use this adjustment to all your benchmark putts and you should be consistent with your distance on the greens.

If you have the time you can repeat this process at your other benchmark distances to ensure that the required adjustment, to your benchmark putting swing, is correct.

By using these simple putting tips you should be able to make the fine adjustments required for any course you play regardless of the types of grass used or whether the greens are hard or soft.
